GLORIA Asum-Kwarteng holds a Master’s Degree in Food Science and Nutrition from the University of Leeds, UK and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. She also has a Certificate in Advance HACCP from Campden BRI and International Food Safety Systems
She is a trained Lead Auditor in Food Safety Management Systems (ISO 22000:2005), which was delivered by British Standards Institution (BSI) and certified by International Register of Certified Auditors (IRCA). This afforded her the opportunity to effectively conduct a number of audits (GMP and other Food Safety Management Systems e.g. HACCP) of both local and foreign food processing facilities either as a member of the audit team or as the Lead auditor
Gloria has also served as a resource or Lead resource person on several occasions to train food processing/importing/exporting companies in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Good Warehouse Practices (GWPs), Good Hygienic Practices (GHPs), Good Retail Practices (GRPs) and Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) based on the principle of HACCP
Gloria successfully led the monitoring of the fortification of flour and vegetable oils to standard when she served as the Focal Person responsible for Safety and Quality of Fortified Foods for the Ghana-GAIN funded five-year National Food fortification program.
She also served as the secretary to the National Food Fortification Alliance (NFFA), a multi-sectoral committee comprising of relevant government ministries and agencies, industry, consumer groups and academia to plan and implement the national fortification program with aim of reducing micronutrient deficiencies in the country
Gloria is currently the FDA representative on the national Salt Iodation Committee (NSIC), a committee responsible coordinate programs and activities that ensure that Ghana achieve 90% household consumption of iodized salt.
Gloria is a Principal Regulatory Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority and Head Training Unit of the Food industrial Support Services Department, a Unit responsible for planning, coordinating and facilitating training programs for industry
